Hippomane mancinella


Seed. Native to Florida, Caribbean, Mexico and Central America. Forms a tall shrub or large tree. The fruit looks like a green apple but is only 1-2 inches in diameter. All parts of the tree are extremely toxic. It has a caustic sap that can cause rashes and blisters when touched, eye irritation and blindness when inhaled (as in burning of the wood) and illness or death when eaten.
