Columbellidae - Dovesnails

Columbellidae, the dovesnails, have shells that vary in shape, some being short and ovate, others being elongate. Most are < 2.5 cm (1 in) in length. One constant feature of this family is the spiraling ribs on the lower portion of the shell. Most live on hard substrates and algae flats, but some crawl upon soft sand. They feed on both plant and animal matter. There are 13 species found in Texas.
