Characteristics
Body bass-like; color orange-reddish on dorsum, ventral pinish; broad yellow horizontal stripes on head, body with yellow mottling, all fins yellowish; dorsal fin long, continuous, notched between spines, sometimes with fleshy tips; tail fin white to yellow with red tips, forked with rounded tips.
Similar Species
Most basses in this family have blunt, rounded or slightly lunate tails. The yellowfin bass has a forked tail with "rounded" lobes. And, of course, coloration is reddish with yellow horizontal strips.
