Pomatomidae - bluefishes

There is only one species in this family, the bluefish. Bluefishes have elongate compressed bodies and are commonly mistaken for jacks. Although a marine species, they have been found up rivers 100 miles from the sea. They are voracious and swift. They will attack schools of fish and maim or kill more fish than necessary for feeding. They have been known to bite bathers while chasing after schools of fishes in shallow waters. This voracity makes them an exciting game fish.
