There is only one species in this family, the cobia, also commonly referred to as ling. They have long rounded bodies with slightly flattened heads and are closely related to the remora family but lack the dorsal sucking disk of the remoras. Cobias are usually solitary except during spawning. They are a feisty fish popular among sport fishermen and are prized table fare.
