Characteristics
Carapace trapezoid-shaped, strongly convergent (narrower) at the posterior end; front edge slightly convex, nearly straight; color pinkish to brownish; upper edge of movable finger of claw tubercled (with bumps); upper surface of carapace and sides with transverse lines, center to lower carapace smooth; inner wrist with a sharp spine; legs sharply pointed for grasping surfaces.
Similar Species
The mottled shore crab (Pachygrapsus transversus) frontal margin has a sinuous edge between eyes, and the upper edge of the movable finger is smooth. Wrist has a blunt spine.

Above intertidal zone on pilings,wharfs, jetties
