Noetiidae - Ark Clams
Genera of this family were once included in the Arcidae (ark clam) family, but were recently placed in the Noetiidae family. Noetiidae shells look similar to the ark clams but differ in ligament placement and the presence of striations on the ligaments. Like ark clams, the shells can be elongate to ovate, inflated, have radial ribs and are whitish with a brown filamentous outer skin (periostracum). There are 2 species found in Texas waters. |
